- The quest for Tone

Tone is artistic. But it's also grounded in practical insight. You gain a certain amount of understanding about tone just from building guitars, and then building more guitars, and then saying, 'Aha, I like this.' For a long time, we worked hard simply to get the design and technical aspects of the guitar to where we liked them. By around 1999, following a series of design and technology breakthroughs, we realized we'd made real progress. Building on what we had learned so far, we found ourselves in a position to ask, 'What's next?' That's when we realized we were free to focus on tone like never before - and to inspire Taylor players to listen closer, go farther, and discover new tonal dimensions they might have never thought possible. - Bob Taylor

The Ultimate Tonal Experience

However far we advance the art of building a fine guitar, we remain painstaking craftsmen, and always will be. In the midst of our efforts, it's deeply gratifying to see that Taylor guitars are spurring on creativity in musicians. And that's the point. There's no imaginary "perfect guitar" towards which we continue to innovate and explore, because there's no fixed set of guidelines about what sounds good. There is, however, the never-ending quest for fresh sounds and new music that keeps people interested and inspired. Your quest inspires our quest: to build guitars that are wonderful to listen to and exceptional to play.
